I was pretty happy with my portaits assignment. I thought it came out pretty well. I wish I hadnt burned sams face in so much, but other than that I am very pleased with the overall result. I used the rule of thirds, and also kinda burned him in a little bit so he sticks out.

I like this photo because of the way the stingray is framed in by the ocean and the boat is framed by the clouds and the ocean.

I like this photo because of the way it presents the subjects, I feel it frames the one on the left with the three on the right, and it uses the rule of thirds.

I liked this photo because of the way it utilizes framing with the hair and the type of mood it gives off. The subject doesnt look happy, she looks kinda depressed.

I like this photo because of the mood it gives to the viewer. She is framed by the hood she wears, which directs the viewer to look at her faceor her eyes which stand out.

I liked this photo because of how the photgrapher chose to take it. The boy has his arms around himself, so he is proboly scared or cold, and he is very dirty, which kind of gives the mood a gloomy or sad feeling.

I liked this picture because of how powerful it is. It deffinately sends a very personal message.

For dramatic lighting, take your light meter reading close to the subject, and then back up to where you are going to shoot. Turn your shutter speed up by at least two stops, so that the film is underexposed. This will cast most of the person in shadows except for the part of him that is lit up.

In my opinion, lots of things make a portrait good. Everything from lighting, to subject placement, and general overall composition, makes the portait what it is. Even just the look on the persons face, can change the entire mood of the photograph. Lighting can do the exact same thing. Every detail tells you something about the subject: where he/she is, what they are doing, and what or how they feel.

My favorite photgrapher was David Doubilet. I liked some of his techniques and how he shot most of his shots under water. He used ideas such as dramatic lighting, using the sun and the oceans surface. He used the rule of thirds to help place the subject. He used lines several times, (my favorite was when he took this picture of a stingray, but the lense was half in and half out of the water. There were these lines in the sand, and they pointed to a boat above the water.) He usually shot with a wide depth of field. And he used the tecnique where the lense is half out of the water, to frame subjects. I feel that the photographers in the dvd helped reinforce our notions in composition, and lighting and other different tecniques.

I reallyliked both of my framing images because I ended up developing and printing them well. I did burn Jay in a little on the bus picture, but I was hoping to get him kinda dark so his face would be the center of focus.

These are photographs that utilize framing

I like this photograph because of the way The couple in the center are framed by the two gentlemen with umbrellas on either side.

I like this photograph because it shows how there can be natural framing. (the sea framed by the hole in the rocks.)

Again, I think this is a good example of how nature can be a great framing tool. (the countryside framed by the outline of a pocket in an ajacent rockface.) 

Yet another example of how nature can frame things. I liked this picture because of how the trees frame the building and thats the first thing your eyes go to.

I chose this photograph because of how the hood of the paka kind of frames the girls face but at the same time gives the picture a cold feeling, like she is standing in the arctic.

These are photographs that utilize framing to key the eye towards the subject of the photo.

These are my hands and feet photos. I personally leked my first photo the one of Alex cutting up a little film canister. Although, I think if I could change my second one I would. I would dodge and burn the cats paws a little bit so that they came out a little better, and appeared clearer in the image.

I liked this photo because I thought it looked interesting, a babies feet cradled in the palms of someones hand.

I liked this photo because of how it highlights the feet and it kida says freedomless, I think because of the feet being chained to the wall behind him.

I liked this phot because I thought it showed a great example of the rule of thirds. However, I think I could have done alot better. I wish the image had been focused a little better, and I also wish I had thrown in a filter so the picture would not be just a flat grey.

I chose this photo because I liked how the photographer used the man in the boat as kind of a prop. I like how the boat kinda holds the picture together.

I chose this photo because I liked how The photographer used the rule of thirds to center the beach and the house in the photo.

I chose this picture because I like the picture. It is apealing to the senses. This is my favorite picture that I took for the discriptive words roll. I wanted the affect of hunger when someone looked at my image, and fresh strawberries seemed like a good way to portray the word "fresh". I really like this photograph, and The only thing I would do to change it would be to give it a little more contrast.

Jim Brandenburg's journey

I think Jim Brandenburg took the ninty day journey so that he could apreciate every picture he took. He thought if he could only take one picture a day he would be able to feel the shot, and basically apreciate the pictures that he took, a little more. I think The ninty day journey was a good idea and that it helped him in the end to set aside his thinking, and be able to know the  best of his shooting abilities.

My favorite picture Jim Brandenburg took on his 90 day journey was the one he took of the wolf peering around the tree. I like this photo because of the way it looks. It makes you wonder "how did he get that shot?" and" why was the wolf only partly around the tree?"

I really liked my lines assignment. I think I did a good job with the raod and the old cattle trail. I think that I did great and  I am very pleased with thoe pictures  I took.

I like this photo because the lines kinda lead your eyes down the road, and into the distance.

I like this picture because the railroad disapearing into the mist makes the photo look apealing.

I like this photo because of the way the wavy dunes in the sand lead your eyes off toward the castle like peaks of the plataus.

I like this picture because it looks interesting the way the photographer chose to get the stairs and the water together.

I like this picture because of the way the photgrapher chose to put the starir case winding up the side of the picture.

I like my depth of field photos. They were ok, but I think I did pretty good on them. I took photos with large depths of field on a golf course, that stretched on in the distance.

This photo has a shallow depth of field. I think the photographer used a maderate aperature such as 5.6 because you can still kinda see some other flowers in the bakcground. 

I think the Photographer used a larger depth of field because the photograph has a short depth of field, and only the flowers are in focus.
